Rough Final Clip Sequence- "A Child At Heart"

For the final clip, I took a little bit from two of my rough clips and added them together. I changed the audio a little bit by adding some background noise throughout almost the whole clip and changing the length of sounds.

Swing Life Away

In this clip, I wanted people to feel like they were on the swings themselves. I wanted people to imagine how it feels to be on a swing and how it felt to play on the tire swings in grade school.

A Day at the Park

In this clip, I wanted to get the feeling of excitement at a playground. I wanted viewers to feel how children feel at a park, how they are energetic and rambunctious. I wanted to take away the sounds of the children and people, and focus more on the sounds of the playground sets and how they make kids feel.

Car Alarm

I took these pictures at the Mckinley Beach parking lot, as well as the car alarm sounds. There is also the sound of a garage door opening, which I found on my way walking to the beach. Someone was opening their garage door and I asked if I could record him opening and closing it. It was a little strange, but the lady was very friendly. I also recorded the sounds of dog tags as someone walked past with their dog. I tried to use that sound as if it were car keys.

Production Strategy

For this trek, I plan to go back to Lake Park located on North Lake Drive. I intend on working more with the playground this time. I also plan to go to Mckinley Beach again and work around the kite stand. I am going to see what kinds of sounds and pictures I can get at this time of the year. Since it is getting colder outside now, I anticipate there being far less people in these areas. I want to see what it will look and sound like without so many people around.
For my image capturing strategy, I will use the extreme close-up, which is no wider than 8 inches. I will also use the least expected angle as another strategy. For sounds, I plan on recording only things that I hear at the playground and around the kite stand at Mckinley Beach. At the playground, I plan on trying to stay away from sounds of people and steer more towards sounds that the playground sets make.

Ten Questions

1.) What other kinds bridges are there in the area?
2.) Are there more houses or restaurants in the area?
3.) What kinds of differences would there be on North Lake Memorial Drive between night and day?
4.) What other kinds of sounds can be found on the playground?
5.) What kinds of sounds can be heard at the beach?
6.) What does the kite shop look like at different times of the day?
7.) What kinds of differences are there at the park and the beach at different times of the year?
8.) How do different angles effect pictures of the same object?
9.) What kind of differences in feelings can be portrayed from the playground?
10.) How does the park look and sound when there isn’t anyone around versus when it was full of people?

Trek Assessment #4

-My favorite experience had to be from Trek 02. I was taking pictures, when my boyfriend and I decided to sit in the grass and take a break(as I mentioned in another post). When I saw how great the sun looked, I decided to lay flat on my stomach in the grass and take pictures of leaves, the grass, and the sun. I took this one video of this leaf as it blew around in the wind. It was something so simple, but yet so powerful. I would have never noticed it if I was just walking by, but since I was laying down at it’s own level it just seemed like such a big deal. The sun was amazing. It seemed to just leave a glare in the left side of the video and it made the whole picture look kinda golden. It looked as if the lights and grass were glowing. I just sat and recorded this leaf blow around for maybe 2 minutes. It was as if the leaf was waking up at first and slowly getting more lively, and then at the end it just seemed to die. The only thing I thought about the entire time I was recording was that it completely reminded me of the film American Beauty. There’s a scene where the boy records this paper bag blowing around in the wind next to a building. It was a pretty long video he recorded and he says it’s the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. When I saw the movie, I didn’t understand how he felt, until I recorded this leaf blowing around. That was probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

Trek Assessment #3

-One thing I definitely did not expect was a sound I experienced in Trek 01. I was at the beach and I was recording next to a kite shop. It was a really windy day and I kept hearing a buzzing noise through my headphones. I had to think about it for awhile, but I finally realized the buzzing was coming from kites that were up in the air. Since it was so windy, the air was flowing through the kites and creating the buzz sound. I’ve never heard that before and even listening to it now, I’m still surprised that it came from kites.

-I was really surprised during Trek 02 when I was taking pictures. I was in this woods-type area taking pictures of a bird feeder. I was watching these squirrels that kept coming close to me when I saw this really small piece of wood coming out of the side of a tree. On the top of the wood, there was a nail sticking out of the top. By then I was just kind of getting bored and I started taking pictures of anything. I took a close-up picture of the nail and it turned out really striking in my opinion. I kept trying to get different shots of it but only the first one turned out nice. After looking at my pictures, that nail is still my favorite picture. It’s just so odd and unusual.

-During Trek 01, I was driving home after recording my sounds and I saw a girl and a boy playing basketball in this fenced in area. I decided to stop and record that, thinking it might be interesting to hear. I’m glad I decided to stop because I was happy with the way it turned out. I ended up getting this sound of not just the basketball hitting the ground(which most people could guess what that sounds like), but I also recorded the ball hitting the wooded backboard, which had an interesting sound to it. It was kind of hard to hear because of all the noisy cars driving past, but it was still held my attention.

Trek Assessment #2

-During Trek 02, there was a moment where I was standing real still in the park taking pictures of a bird feeder. As I was standing there, more and more squirrels and chipmunks kept coming around me. A squirrel came maybe 3 feet away from me and it was as if it was posing for me as I took pictures. I could hear the chipmunks running around me too. They were eating bird seed underneath the feeder, which was maybe 5 feet away from me.

-There was another moment during Trek 02, where I sat down in the grass with my boyfriend to take a break. As we were sitting there, I noticed the light was shining in our direction in a really interesting way. I laid down in the grass to take pictures and they just kept getting better and better. I took videos of the grass moving in the wind, and pictures of leaves, and the sun just seemed to leave this incredible glow on the pictures. There was this yellowish leaf that I took a video of that seemed to dance around with the wind. I recorded it for almost two minutes because it was so interesting to see it move. The sun was shining in one spot and left shadows of the grass on the leaf. It was really peaceful to just lay in the grass for a break and then to just “discover” these sights.

Trek Assessment #1

-During trek 01, I kept getting aggravated while recording my sounds. I would find something that seemed really interesting to record and in the middle of it, a plane would fly over and completely cover up the sounds I was trying to record.

-During trek 02, I was getting bothered when trying to find shadows. I really wanted to get a shadow of a bicycle riding past, however whenever I saw one, I couldn’t record it in time. I kept noticing it too late and I couldn’t get the camera ready in time. I did manage to record one, and it was a very short video. It ended up working well in my clips however.
